Fingerprinting is a tried and tested method used for authentication of identity. Live scanning is rapidly replacing getting the prints physically with ink. But the process has a tendency to go awry for several reasons. But there are ways of tackling the problems easily while getting live scans of fingerprints.

Problems Encountered In Fingerprint Scanning

There can be issues with the quality of the fingerprints because of the low resolution image. They arise because of changing moisture content of the skin or physical loss of ridges on the fingertips. Other issues might be environmental or because of the presence of dirt and debris. Improper use of the machinery and faulty technique also leads to poor scanning.

Best Practices For Getting Good Image Quality

Temperature plays a key role here. Maintain the machine at optimum temperature as specified by manufacturer. The room should also be properly warmed to ensure the fingers do not dry up and get cracked. Dryness of the air or excess moisture in the room will degrade the quality of fingerprint scan. Injuries and skin diseases distort the skin. Delaying the scan is to let these heal is the best way to proceed in such cases. Good quality devices used under recommended specifications help capture good quality scans.

There are ways of addressing other issues as well to get the best possible fingerprint images. Getting the scan is not possible in case of permanent deformities of the finger or fingers. Maintaining the right height of the machine during fingerprint scanning is paramount while getting the scan. Excess pressure applied or not enough pressure can discord the scan. Clean hands with soap or alcohol before the scanning process. In case of excess moisture in the fingertips, use alcohol as a drying agent. Remove all dirt from the fingertips and the scan plate before each scan with soft cotton cloth to get best results.

Methods Of Amplifying Ridge Quality

Rubbing the fingertips can help raise the ridges slightly to get better scans if the ridges are of poor quality. Because of the lifestyle or livelihood of the individual, ridges on fingertips often get degraded physically. If the first method does not work multiple attempts are used to get the best scan. In these low amounts of ink are applied and the fingertips and gentle pressure is used. If these don’t work then specific ridge quality enhancing lotion must be applied to get the best possible scan of the fingertips.
